HICKORY, N.C. — About $75,000 worth of clothing was stolen from Big Time Bargains over the holidays in Hickory, officials said.

The thieves cut their way into a 53-foot trailer to carry off boxes of clothing.

“So, you’re looking at probably 25,000 pieces of clothing in it, and that’s a lot of clothing,” said Caskell Cook, who is a wholesale liquidator at Big Time Bargains.

Cook had sold the tractor-trailer of clothes to a business in New York, and he believes it took at least three people to break in and steal the clothing.

“It was a little bit of everything,” employee Marie Coleman said. “Sheets, comforters, name-brand clothes. Brand-new stuff.”

Cook said he’s installed extra security cameras around his business to prevent break-ins.

“The thing is, if you needed it that bad, if you need it for yourself, you could have asked,” Cook said. “We donate to you or would have given it to you. We do a lot of donations here.”

Cook believes the clothing most likely will end up being sold at local flea markets for a fraction of what he paid.
